Amalgaverse Profile: The U.N. Spacy

Sphere of Influence: Sol Sector and the Sol Local Star Group

Government: Republic Democracy, headed by the Global Congress and the President of the United Nations of Earth.

Home World: Earth.

The Earth of the 22nd century is very different than the earth we know today. Most of the planet is unpopulated and many locations are still “hot” with radioactivity. Water levels are 10% lower than today, planet wide, and about 78% of life forms that we know are extinct. However, there are at least 30 different new species of alien plant and fauna which have moved in to fill the niches left behind. There are several versions of the Invid Flower of Life which continually tries to take root, despite UN Spacy’s efforts to eradicate the plant. Also there are the pollinator and several species of dinosaur, unleashed accidentally when the Invid abandoned their genesis pits during their flight from earth. Human society is concentrated in North America, South America and Africa. Planet-wide population is estimated at about 400 million.

Contrary to popular belief, “Dolza’s Rain of Death” did not destroy every human on the planet besides those onboard the SDF-1. In fact, as clearly detailed through the adventures of Lt. Scott Bernard and his rebel fighters, New York City and Denver, Colorado were both untouched by Zentraedi orbital fire. What’s more, there were several hours between the first defolding of Dolza’s fleet and the actual assault on earth, which allowed many people to find shelter. Survival was hard at first, but technological advances due to robotechnology and other sciences helped bring humanity back from the brink. In fact, one little known detail of that time period is that humanity probably did so well THANKS to the Zentraedi. When their ships plummeted to the earth, survivors found inside of them shelter from radiation and the elements due to their thick, protective hulls, and they found massive, massive quantities of foodstores. Remember, these ships were miles long and meant to house tens of thousands of giant warriors for possibly years at a time. Just one crashed scout vessel’s stores were enough to supply the 100,000 survivors of the city of Portland, Oregon, for example, until assistance could arrive.

In addition, the Invid were miraculously able to refertilize much of the planet’s surface through the use of their biogenetic manipulation sciences. A barren world would have been no good to them. In a matter of months in what was obviously an accelerated manner, entire forests sprouted up like magic after their initial invasion. This also is confirmed by the travels of Bernard and Co, as well as other survivors, who repeatedly traveled through territories lush with life, which should have been impossible given the environmental devastation of the zentraedi attack just a few years before.

Now, Earth is in the process of a rebuilding boom, recovering from the nearly fatal war with the Marduk. Employment is nearly 100% and earth’s defenses are rapidly being rebuilt. Already the Macross cannons have been replaced and the fleet has not only been reconstructed, but equipped with FTL travel capabilities, so it can explore local space and hopefully meet any new threats before they pop up in orbit like the Marduk did.

The government of UN Spacy is very close to that of the former United States, with a president, congress and supreme court. However, the military tribunal which heads the fleet and military are also a powerful branch of government, more so than ever was the case in the U.S. With earth’s fractured history, it’s something that the people are very comfortable with. In fact they demand it.

Notes on Ships and Mecha:

The ships of U.N. Spacy are virtually unchanged, except that the capital ships all have standard FTL drives based on ATPDS and Marduk technology (1/2 lightyear per day). In addition, there are very few Zentraedi capital ships left after the Marduk attack, but the fleet has been supplemented by several Marduk vessels which the Marduk abandoned as unfit for travel when they left Earth space. No one knows where the Marduk went, but many of their zentraedi stayed behind with their kin on earth. It is rumored that the UN Spacy keeps contact with Emperor Feff and Empress Ishtar, however, and that there has been some trade of technology and information. This seems both reasonable and highly likely, as intelligence agencies from other powers report that Marduk representatives and shuttles have been spotted making clandestine trips to UN Spacy’s moon base. What this may mean for the future of UN Spacy is unknown, but they may have a very powerful ace in the hole if things ever get dicey.

The Valkyrie II SAPS is the standard mainline fighter for UN Spacy, with the SAPS Special assigned to squadron commanders and aces and the Metal Siren regulated to special forces squadrons (it was deemed just too expensive in light of the need to rebuild nearly the entire fleet after the Marduk war). Both the Valkyrie II and Zentran fighter have been downgraded and the Zentran fighter is available for civilian purchase (the Valkyrie II is still deemed military, as the chassis is too close to the SAPS fighter…it is mainly used for colony defense and Civil Space Patrol (CSP) which functions as a space customs and policing agency. The Destroids are unchanged and still in use. Most zentraedi at this point have been integrated into the regular armed forces and get the same mecha as human pilots.

History of the U.N. Spacy:

Much of the U.N. Spacy’s history is unchanged for the Amalgaverse Project, except that it BEGINS in its current form after the Invid were driven from Earth. After that, the UN Spacy slowly rose to power, uniting first the earth and then contacting with scattered colonies. Using old zentraedi ships they spread to nearby stars using fold engines and the last of their protoculture supplies and then banned the use of protoculture altogether with the advent of conventional FTL drives. The zentraedi ships were captured during several incursions by renegade zentraedi fleets that were still susceptible to the Minmei Attack. In addition, without the Robotech Masters’ infrastructure, the zentraedi ships were in horrible states of disrepair, and barely capable of functioning in combat.

For the most part, things have been uneventful until the recent arrival and war with the Marduk. Having survived that, UN Spacy is weakened substantially, which has resulted in a meteoric rise in protoculture smuggling (earth is still the most fertile planet for the Flower of Life since Optera), and an overall jockeying for power among the space faring human societies. The ATPDS, Southern Cross and the Decahedron Compact have seen the decline of the UN Spacy, and the paralysis of the REF when the SDF-3 disappeared, as opportunities to take the center stage as the leading societies for humanity.

Current holdings of U.N. Spacy includes all of Sol system, with major bases on Mars, IO and the moon, the Darwin Colony around Proxima Centauri, New Edwards, it’s largest extra-solar colony in orbit around Sirius, a mining colony at Tau Ceti and the New Eden colony at Procyon.

Relations with other governments:

REF and the Sentinels Alliance: Possibly the strongest ally of UN Spacy is the REF. The UN Spacy was, afterall, founded by the survivors of Admiral Hunter's ill-fated earth liberation fleet, much of which was destroyed by the Invid Regis during her departure from earth. However, the bulk of UN Spacy are earth citizens who, culturally have become vastly different from their spaceborne brothers and sisters in the REF. Further, the two disagree on the use of protoculture and the UN Spacy ban on protoculture in its territories has sorely tested diplomatic relations. That being said, these two are still strong allies and engage in a heavy amount of trade and commerce. The only reason the REF did not intervene in the Marduk war was because UN Spacy tried to hide the scale of the conflict. Cooler, more sensible heads are now in power, and such an event would be unlikely to happen again. UN Spacy, REF and ATPDS are on the verge of a mutual assistance pact with the only stumbling block being the REF and Sentinel Alliance's reliance on protoculture.

ATPDS: Another strong ally of UN Spacy, as mentioned above, is the ATPDS. The ATPDS shares the UN Spacy's policy against the use of protoculture, however, many outside of the ATPDS and UN Spacy accuse the ATPDS of playing politics with the issue. It has the most advanced non-protoculture spacefaring technology and could benefit greatly from the needs of other star systems if protoculture was banned throughout Human Space. Politically, ATPDS and UN Spacy are very similarly aligned. Trade is frequent and strong, as are diplomatic relations and anti-piracy and smuggling joint operations are common.

The UEG and the Armies of the Southern Cross: While the Southern Cross puts on a good front of being loyal to the "Home World" and thus strong allies of the UN Spacy by default of being human, the UN Spacy doesn't buy it. They are well aware that the Southern Cross is responsible for much of the protoculture smuggling. While the Southern Cross makes no pretense of even contemplating a move away from protoculture, they will not acknowledge the frequent trade of protoculture to the Decahedron Compact. Further, pirates and smugglers often operate out of Exile Space and the 61 Cygni system due to a non-extradition policy held by both. Relations between these two forces are chill, and UN Spacy officials shuddered to discover that the Southern Cross had plans for a "liberation" fleet to free earth from the Marduk if their defense of earth had failed.

The Decahedron Compact: While there is frequent trade between these two governments, there is also a LOT of smuggling. Relations are neutral to cool, with the Decahedron Compact sharing some of earth's more anti-alien sentiments. In fact, some suspect DC agents of linking with anti-alien extremist groups on earth and fomenting dissent.

The Robotech Masters: UN Spacy has had little contact with the Masters and never had an official military engagement or diplomatic contact. UN Spacy uses the Robotech Masters as an allegory to strengthen its argument against the use of protoculture. In turn the Robotech Masters spare little thought to Earth and its non-protoculture using colonies. They were surprised that another species discovered the zentraedi's achilles heel, something they knew about for centuries, but so did the Marduk (which was the race Breetai and Exedore were referring to when they talked about previous contact with micronian society).

The Invid: This is the boogeyman of the UN Spacy. Many on earth, some say unrealistically, strongly believe proliferation of the use of protoculture will result in a new invasion of earth. Earth could almost be considered psychologically scarred by the Invid invasion, primarily due to the ease of which the Invid conquered earth. What's more, the Regis left on her own accord, and to many on earth they saw her destruction of the REF fleet as a sign that she was leaving of her own accord and not because the REF had achieved a military victory. Now, with the weakening of UN Spacy after the Marduk War, sentiments against the use of protoculture are stronger than ever, as most believe the earth would be powerless against a full-on Invid onslaught. Contact with the Invid is avoided. Southern Cross and the Decahedron Compact scorn the UN Spacy for their fear of the Invid, to which most in the UN Spacy reply that they've never seen an Invid Invasion fleet blotting out the stars, so they should kindly keep to subjects they actually know something about.

The CCW: The UN Spacy is very hopeful that diplomatic relations with the CCW will be fruitful. Archaelogists are chomping at the bit to put their heads together with CCW scientists and puzzle out the origins of the Human Race. Generals in UN Spacy are just as eager for some exchange of technology as well.

The TGE: Like the REF, UN Spacy is very cautious toward the TGE and its clearly imperialist motivations. However, they are keeping all options on the table and believe that they could peaceably trade with the Empire as long as they keep their nose out of TGE business.

UWW: UN Spacy doesn't know what to make of this organization. Magic is very hard for the people of earth to swallow, even though some things the Invid did seemed to come close. Wizards, witches and warlocks? UN Spacy is hesitant to put any eggs at all in THAT basket!
